A Day in the Woods at Rock Creek, Montana

Yesterday dawned a beautiful partly sunny day with a weather forecast calling for an unusually warm 60 degrees. My husband was headed out to work on a house remodel in Rock Creek, one of my favorite areas about 20 minutes from home. He pointed out the weather forecast and suggested I bring our little nugget out to the house for the afternoon since it is vacant and sits on ten acres in the woods.

I was reluctant at first because I had a very long "to do" list, but I realized that I REALLY needed a break since we've been pushing so hard to meet our goal of stocking our Etsy shop with over 100 items. I packed a lunch, our trusty baby backpack and the dogs and we headed out of town.

Although the sky was overcast and the air a bit cooler in the woods, it was a fabulous day. We listened to the creek flow across the rocks, we hiked around the property through the crunchy snow, we explored deer tracks and trails, and we just sat and enjoyed the beauty around us.

Our little nugget is 18 months old and although she's been out in the woods since she was just a few days old, she's at a developmental stage where everything is new and curious. We found a low lying area without snow and sat outside in the pine needles while she played with sticks, rocks, and dissected pine cones.

It was exactly what I needed. Although I didn't get to mark anything off my long "to do" list, I gave myself a much needed break. Being immersed in nature fills my soul and revives me. Today I feel re-energized and already tackling my long "to do" list!

Have you been on any nature adventures lately?

  1. I've been working at stocking my Etsy with more items as well. I would love to get to 100! We had fun in the sun today. It was a gorgeous 70, and sunny. Spring is coming to TN! I even took little man's shirt off outside to soak up some extra sun.

    1. Wow Alix, 70 degrees sounds so wonderful! It will probably be at least another couple months until it gets that warm here- I can't wait!

  2. Wow, that place looks gorgeous. I really believe that getting out in nature really clears the mind to be able to tackle jobs later on.
